Going first matters

A leader should be willing to tell the truth first, take ownership first, listen before reacting, and make the difficult call when avoiding it would be easier. A title does not create trust. Consistent responsibility does.

Clarity is a form of care

People deserve to understand the purpose, the expectations, the boundaries, and how decisions will be made. Vague leadership creates anxiety. Clear leadership gives people a fair chance to contribute, grow, and be accountable.

The goal is not dependency

I do not want people to leave my leadership needing me more. I want them stronger, clearer, more confident, and more capable. That means coaching, sharing context, allowing responsibility, and resisting the temptation to be the only person who can solve the problem.

Reflection

Are the people you lead becoming more capable—or simply more dependent on your decisions?
